It’s been almost a year since we embarked on a transformative journey, evaluating, reimagining, and reshaping our “Theory of Change” for the culinary and customer service job training program at Forge City Works. This collaborative process was facilitated by the Connecticut Opportunity Project (CTOP), an initiative of Dalio Education.
The outcome of this process was a firm commitment to intensify our job training focus. We expanded our program from a 16-week core model to a comprehensive 3-level structure. This new approach encompasses core life skills and job skill development, job coaching, mentoring, on-the-job training, internships, and ongoing employment services.
Moreover, we’ve extended our support to each trainee for 12 months post-program, with the revised goal of guiding individuals onto a career path toward sustainable employment and living wages.
Excitingly, CTOP/Dalio Education is continuing to stand by us as we implement this innovative model over the next 3-5 years. Their multi-year funding and support commitment are instrumental in building our program model and amplifying our impact.
Throughout the past year, significant changes have taken place, including the addition of a full-time case manager, the establishment of a Lead Culinary Instructor position, enhanced use of data and evaluations for real-time adjustments, integration of cognitive behavioral tools, trauma-informed training, and the introduction of a mentoring program for our trainees.
Witnessing the impact of these changes on our trainees has been truly inspiring. Overcoming employment barriers is complex and challenging work, but every day, I see us learning, growing, and improving in our mission.
I hold the hope and expectation that our organization will continue to evolve and learn. What we do is of immense significance, and I firmly believe it’s worth the substantial investment of time and resources we dedicate to each trainee.
Your unwavering support and partnership have been pivotal. The financial investment you make in our work is indispensable to our ability to help individuals transform their lives through the power of food and a pathway to sustainable employment. On behalf of our dedicated team and those we serve, thank you!
Sincerely,Executive Director
