The Farmers’ Market on Broad St. has provided access to fresh, local produce in the center of the city for almost a decade. More than 27,000 people shopped at our weekly farmers market in the last seven years. Of those, almost 2862 SNAP purchases were made totaling more than $39,000. This was matched more than 1:1 to put more than $55,000 of fresh produce on the tables of hungry neighbors.

To continue and expand the impact of the Farmers Market, The Grocery on Broad will open later this year in partnership with Connecticut Foodshare. This neighborhood grocery store will be open at least 5 days a week and will stock fresh produce, meats, prepared food and grocery staples. We will use a sliding scale pricing model, making access to wholesome and quality food in our neighborhood and beyond affordable for all.

As we continue to work on the launch of the neighborhood grocery store and transition from our traditional Farmers’ Market format, we welcome you to join us this summer (starting Thursday, June 22nd) at The Grocery on Broad’s Weekly Preview Market, every Thursday from 11 am to 2 pm at 563 Broad St., featuring locally grown produce.

With our focus being on providing access to fresh and wholesome foods, SNAP recipients will receive a 50% discount on their produce purchases. Credit and Debit will also be forms of payment that we will accept.
