In the culinary world, June 25 is Anthony Bourdain Day. It is a day that we remember his life and work. It is also a day that we are reminded of the importance of paying attention to mental health – our own as well as our peers, friends, co-workers and family members.

Bourdain has inspired a generation of chefs, cooks and culinarians – from his “behind the scenes” story-telling, world-travels and seasoned perspective on all things food, he was somehow both the “every man” (person) within the industry, while also being an icon for the industry.

In honor of Chef Bourdain, we are proud to support and partner with the Jordan Porco Foundation (www.rememberingjordan.org) in their work to prevent suicide, promote mental health, and create a message of hope for young adults.

They accomplish this, by helping to challenge the stigma by talking openly about mental health issues, offering engaging and uplifting programming, emphasizing peer-to-peer messaging, and promoting help seeking behavior, self-care, and coping skills. Additionally, they educate about the risk factors and warning signs of suicide and other related mental health concerns. The foundation honors the name and spirit of Jordan Matthew Porco, who died by suicide in 2011. While working primarily with young adults, here in Connecticut, the foundation has also worked closely with the restaurant industry to address these issues within our context.

Bourdain was fond of saying, “You learn a lot about someone when you share a meal together.” We hope you enjoy this Fill-Your-Fridge and take time to share a meal with friends and family.
